DINING IN OAHU

Yard House Brewery

Our first outing to a restaurant outside of the Hilton Village, was a short walk further up Waikiki beach to Lewers St. In that area we all discovered several nice stores and restaurants to check out, lining both sides of the street.

As we walked into the place it reminded us of Gordon Biersch at Destiny. This place was also known for there own beer brewery. The food was very delicious for both kids and adults. Friendly staff and reasonable prices.

Fresco Italian Resturant

Over the course of our stay at the village we either went out to eat or made a quick sandwich in our room. So we decided to check out the Italian place. It had a good selection of seafood and steak. I had calamari, Lesya had a seafood platter and the kids had their meals.

Overall a great meal.

Dairy Queen

We have never had the ice cream at the Dairy Queen so we decided to try it one evening while hanging out on the beach after dinner. It looked good on the poster hanging on the door but I didn't like it too much. One of the reasons being that it the ice cream was blended like a flurry or shake and then poured into an ice cream cone. I would rather stick to the soft serve or hard ice cream.

Cheesecake Factory in Oahu

Since we were half way across the world, or so it seemed, we wondered if the menu was different. The first thing that we noticed was how much bigger the restaurant was when compared to what we know at Destiny. The menu had some Hawaiian highlights and Lesya decided to try a Tuna Poke  Salad. I honesty didn't object helping her finish the salad up, it was very well made.

KONA Coffee

My favorite coffee is the Gevalia brand, a medium Costa Rican roast. I really enjoy how smooth it is and not burnt tasting. When I had the KONA coffee at the Hilton it really reminded me of Gevalia, and maybe even better. I'm looking forward to enjoying some more when we get home.

Honolulu Cookie

We had walked passed a couple of the Honolulu Cookie stores, but one evening on our way to dinner we decided to sample this well known cookie. The cookies dipped in white, milk, and dark chocolate were irresistible so so we decided to get some to snack on later.

Farmer's Market

Prior to our Hawaii trip some friends from church recommended we check out the local farmer's market. While walking to the park we accidentally stumbled upon the open air market. There was a large selection of fresh fruit as well as many different pastries. We had some delicious Portuguese donuts and a coconut. It was a very nice experience and would recommend it as well.

It was located in a small mall across from the Kuhio Beach Park.

The Musubi

A few years back Lesya had watched the Andrew Zimmern show and she remembered that Andrew tried the Musubi while in the Hawaiian islands and so we decided to try it out as well. So for a quick snack we picked up a couple spam and egg Musubi to eat during our drive to the airport. All of loved this small but tasty snack. We actually had regrets that we hadn't tried it earlier. It was very filling.
