GREEN LAKES CAMPING: STAYING CLOSE TO HOME!

Most people know that we travel to the Adirondacks for camping with the exception of one time several years ago we went to Bald Eagle State Park in PA. Thats a different story for a different time. Along with some church friends we decided to camp together and local is always better for the first time. This also gave us the idea of borrowing our friends camper because the set up would obviously be quicker and since we were only staying for 2 nights, that sounded like a great combo.

We visited Green Lakes several times over the years past, but this was our first time camping there. Several friends have camped there before and have always shared their positive experiences. We booked our campsite in the Rolling Hills section which is set back a ways but is a five minute drive to the lake and other recreational areas of the campground.

We had a nice playground just down the road from us for the kids to play. The eight families that camped with us all stayed nearby, surrounding the play area.

The bathhouse/bathroom also had a sink area to wash dishes. A great feature to this bathroom building was the family sections. It was much easier to have a private room to bath the kids then have them run around in the entire bathroom.

Back at the camp, there was plenty of time to play with the different features on the lantern flashlights.

The nearby wooded area and field provided a great location for the kids to explore and discover things. Thankfully they didn't get into the poison ivy that was also plentiful.

One morning we took a family hike to Round Lake via a trail that was primarily wooded. It was a nice 2 mile walk that had some nice elevation change but the kids kept themselves entertained that they barely noticed the difficult sections. During our hike we noticed there were many runners and later we learned that there was a 100K event taking place. Collectively we all provided plenty of obstacles to the runners.

There were plenty of information plaques that the kids pretended to read but occasionally the parents read them out loud for those seriously interested.

The water is really clear  and deep at both Round and Green Lakes. Round Lake is 176 feet deep and Green Lake is 195 ft deep. The minerals in the water give it the greenish tint.

Most people go to Green Lakes for the beach experience.

Great experience overall and we look forward to doing it again, potentially next year!
