Whats in Hamilton, ON Canada you may ask? For our trip this was the best spot as a center location to all of the places that we wanted to explore. Although its a large city, it is a lot smaller then Toronto and therefore it was much easier to find a place to stay.
This was an 11th hour change-of-plans-trip because we were originally planning to vacation in Outer Banks, NC. But with the approaching Florence hurricanes and highly recommended evacuations, we cancelled this vacation. We were super grateful to the owners who refunded our money in full for the condo were were going to rent for the week.
LODGING
We love the Hilton line of hotels, but never stayed in their extended stay hotels such as the Homewood Suites. It turned out to be a great experience and we highly recommend it. Its especially nice to have a a full kitchen, living room, and a separate room to sleep when you have a family of 5. It also had a complementary breakfast which was more then just bagels, cereal and milk. It had some nice pastries, eggs, bacon, sausage and a nice Belgian waffle maker. We enjoyed breakfast to the fullest.
Great view
There was plenty of room for all three kids to brush their teeth at the same time.
Must have in crib: phone, doll, water bottle
DINING OUT
We were conveniently located next to a mall which had a grocery store: Nations. On our first shopping experience with neat little shopping carts, we filled the cart with the needed items and a few new things we wanted to try. At the cash register we found out that they don't except American money nor did our debit card work. So we had to go to a different store, purchase an item and get change back in Canadian. I really didn't think that we needed to go to the bank to get the appropriate currency.
THE MULE
This was definitely not a kid-friendly place, however, the adventurous parents that we are we stayed anyway. Its a bar and appetizer style. The food turned out to be good but not a dinner type food you would want to have with family. We had some tacos, chips and cheese dip, and water.
TWIST BURGER BAR
Early in the day we learned that the poutine (pronounced "putin") was Canadian dish, more specifically a Quebec type food, so we wanted to give it a try. The poutine place just down the block was closed for renovations and so I stumbled upon this place. I was greeted by the owner who was very friendly and surprisingly I found poutine on their menu.
I requested some protein on the poutine and it turned out to be a great addition. Poutine consists of fries, cheese curds and gravy. It tasted like a Thanksgiving meal. I would also have to label it as comfort food that really fills you up. Overall it was a great dish and highly recommended.
A few doors down there is a Lebanese restaurant that had great baclava, which made for some great dessert after poutine. And then came the heartburn!
THE BIKER WALKED HOME
On our way to the Mule we came across this bikers misfortune. I really hoped that this individual learned their lesson.
