THE GREAT RACE 2014

For the second time I had the opportunity to participate in the Great Race that takes place in Auburn, NY at Emerson Park. This race consists of three parts: running, biking, and kayaking. Two of my PA colleagues KB and Dave Mizro ran and biked and I kayaked. The race starts out with a 10K run, followed by a 20 mile bike ride and it concludes with a 4 mile kayak trip. The race is divided into a short course and and long course (traditional course). The long course consists of a 30.2 mile race. The competition is broken down to each category, age group and overall time.

This year on August 10th, once again we had great weather, making for really nice conditions for each part of the race. The 85 degree weather made for a warm run in the sun as well as some really hot conditions on the open water. Nevertheless, we were really glad for nice weather.

KB had a great start finishing the 10K in 44 min 30 seconds.
We had a good transition from running to biking.

Dave Mizro finished the biking part in just over 55 min.
We had a good transition from biking to kayaking.
I finished the kayaking part in 50 min.

Comparing 2013 and 2014 Races all three of us had improved from the previous year.

KB-- 30 seconds
DM-- 3 minutes
AS-- 8 minutes

Overall we went from 61st place to 38th.
We were 3rd in our age group.
We were 6th in the kayak division.

Overall it was fun competing together. And I am really grateful for my wife's support in this year's adventure.
