LAKE PLACID TIME!

This summer while camping with friends, we spoke about hiking and it's something that interested Oleg and Luba. Lesya and I have enjoyed hiking together over the past 7 years we have been married and so we thought it would be fun to have Oleg and Luba come along with us. They have never been to Lake Placid either. So a combination of hanging out in Lake Placid and doing some hiking sounded like a great trip. This was also the first time that we would do a fall hiking trip.

The time that worked best of us was Columbus weekend but that also meant increased tourists and decreased hotel availability. The thing that aggregates me most  is the increased length of hotel booking requirement on the holidays. In order to avoid that we decided to stay in Keene Valley at the Ausable Inn. I stayed there this past summer when hiking with some friends. It's a nice little place, that's perfect for a one night lodging before a hike.

We drove into Keene Valley Saturday morning, got our hotel keys and spent the remainder of the day in Lake Placid. The weather was cooler and overcast but dry for the most part. We had rain for about 20 minutes in the afternoon.

By the time we got into town it was lunch time so we had a wonderful meal at our favorite sandwich and crepe place, Big Mountain Deli. Luckily a table freed up so we dined inside and enjoyed a warm toasty setting. I devoured my favorite Saddleback sandwich and Raspberry Muscapone crepe.

We did the usual touristy things after lunch and hit the Main St. stores one after another. Luba, Lesya and myself all realized that we didn't bring any gloves for the hike. The forecast predicted temperatures  in the high 30's so wearing gloves sounded like a great idea. Lesya and I ended up getting some nice gloves at EMS. We got some little souvenier's for our kids. Around 3:30 pm the weather cleared up a little and so we decided to drive up Whiteface mountain via the Veterans Memorial Highway.

After our Whiteface experience we came back into town for dinner. I did a little research before the trip and so I had a couple places in mind, Smoke Signals and Liquids and Solids at the Handlebar. Both places had great reviews. We decided to go to a place that had more protein which was Smoke Signals. It's a BBQ place that reminded me a little of Smokey Bones. Lesya and I decide to try the sampler that had brisket, ribs and pulled chicken. We also got a Goat Cheese and Beets salad. The meat looked so good that I forgot to snap a shot of the plate but instead dug right in. Overall it was good eating. Nevertheless Smokey Bones and Texas Roadhouse are still a better place to have smoked meat.

Back at the Inn we enjoyed some good conversation and then a good nights rest.
